Inverness Caledonian Thistle are monitoring the progress of Viacheslav Hleb, the younger brother of Arsenal attacker Alexander and plan to have a close look at him on Friday night, when he will be playing for Belarus Under-21s against Scotland at Broadwood stadium in Cumbernauld.

Hleb is currently signed to Lithuanian team Kaunas but has been loaned out to MTZ-Ripo, both clubs are owned by, Hearts major shareholder, Vladimir Romanov. Hleb would appear to be the first player identified by Romanov as a possible signing for Caley Thistle after the recent talks he had with Greame Bennett and David Sutherland. Grassa was quoted as saying "He [Romanov] was very interested in the history of the club and was complimentary about what we have achieved over a short space of time. We discussed players and his contacts throughout the Baltic countries. There are obviously talented players there and it was suggested that we could have a look at some, with the help of his contacts. With the window coming up we are willing to look at this. The manager [Craig Brewster] obviously makes the decision with regards to the team. We had a good chat with him and we talked about how we could help each other." "If a player like Alexander Hleb's young brother was to be available then, yes, he certainly sounds like somebody the manager would like to take a look at with a view to bringing him in." Vladimir came to see us to talk about a wide range of issues regarding football in the SPL which we took as quite a compliment, as part of these discussions we also had a conversation about the possibility of him, through his contacts, helping us to identify possible signing targets in Europe. If a player like Alexander Hleb's young brother was to be available then, yes, he certainly sounds like somebody the manager would like to take a look at with a view to bringing him in." |
