Butcher praises quality of league

Inverness CT manager Terry Butcher has praised the quality of the First Division as the Highland club aim to clinch promotion on Saturday.A win over Dunfermline, along with a Dundee defeat and Ross County failing to win, would see Butcher's men secure the title this weekend.

And although Butcher is gunning for promotion, he insists the First Division boasts quality.

"I think it's been a brilliant league for everybody concerned," he said.

"People from the outside are looking in and saying 'that's where all the action is, that's where all the good football is' and that's where all the goals are as well," said Butcher.

"I'd be delighted to get out of it but we've gone half the season unbeaten: six wins on the trot, fantastic goal difference," he said.

It would be a real shame if we didn't improve on our unbeaten run

"We've got to a point now where we've got to continue that work.

"It would be a real shame if we didn't improve on our unbeaten run; we need to keep plodding away and make sure we get there in the end.

"But we've got three difficult matches between now and the end of the season with two of the top teams, Dunfermline and Dundee, with Ayr sandwiched there in the middle still fighting for their lives."

So far this season Inverness and Dunfermline have fought out draws at both grounds while Inverness grabbed a last minute 1-0 victory, which Butcher describes as "fortunate", at East End Park on the opening day of the season.

Although Dunfermline are no longer title contenders, no-one in the Inverness camp expects a dull encounter.

If Butcher's side secure maximum points on Saturday, the scores from the Dundee and Ross County games will be the focus of interest in the Highland capital.
