Butcher wants strong mental focus

"It's about getting into their minds - and, if the mind's sharp, if the mind's ready then the body will come with it," Butcher told BBC Scotland.

"It's about the body being on fire and the mind being in the fridge. It's more of a psychological thing now."

Three dramatic victories for Butcher's side in a week extended their unbeaten run to 15 matches and converted a four-point deficit into a point lead with six matches remaining before the end of the season.

You've got to be ice cold in your brain but your body will run forever in some respects - because if your brain tells it to, it will do that

And Butcher is now convinced that the mental approach of his players will play a crucial role if they are to return to the Scottish Premier League next season.

"Because you're not doing a lot of training in between games now, there's games on a Saturday and a Tuesday and all this sort of thing, you don't get a lot of time for training," said Butcher.

"You've got to be ice cold in your brain, but your body will run forever in some respects - because, if your brain tells it to, it will do that."

Although previous and current form both favour Caley Thistle in Saturday's clash, Butcher is refusing to write off Raith Rovers, who are gearing up for a Hampden appearance in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup and have had a few high points already this season.

"Whilst we've beaten them three times, they've been very difficult matches," said Butcher.

"The last was a 4-0 win for us down in Fife, but it was never a 4-0 game and, in the previous two matches, we've struggled to score goals and in fact we had two 1-0 wins.

"You've only got to look at John McGlynn and his team and what they've achieved this season."

Inverness's squad consists of a mix of young players who were recruited only recently to the Butcher's side.

The older, more experienced players, like defender Ross Tokely, who has made over 500 appearances in almost 14 years at the Highlands club, believes that the senior players have a lot to offer as Caley Thistle push for promotion.

"There are a lot of young lads in the squad who haven't experienced this and need to be kept on their toes," said Tokely.

"They need to keep their feet on the ground, and that's what we've done, and we've just quietly gone about our business and that's what it's about for the next six games.

"It's taken a bit of time to gel as a team and there's a lot of new faces coming in and I think we're peaking at the right time.

"Boys are getting to know each other's games over the last three or four months and you can see the difference on the pitch."
