The 26-year-old former Hibs captain played in the 2-1 win against Kilmarnock at the end of August but the injury has deteriorated and he was left out of the squad which drew 1-1 with Hearts two Saturdays ago.
The Englishman will had his operation last Friday and Inverness manager Terry Butcher is hoping to have him back in early October.
