New signing Chris Innes believes Inverness are in good shape for their return to the Scottish Premier League.

The experienced 34-year-old defender signed a one-year contract with the Highlanders this week, having been with St Mirren last season.

"Clubs from the First Division generally lose their best players when they get promoted," he said.

"Inverness have managed to keep the nucleus of the squad together which I think is very important."

Innes, who has also had spells with Kilmarnock, Dundee United, Gretna and Livingston, made his debut in a 6-0 friendly win against Elgin on Wednesday.

"We need to stamp our authority on games from the beginning and we could not ask for a better opening league game than against Celtic at home," he told the Press and Journal.
